* Summer 2007 Final Student Projects *

  • Assigning Date: Wednesday, July 25, 2007
  • Web Site Due Date: Monday, August 13, 2007 at 7:00pm ONLINE in Blackboard
  • Presentation: Monday, August 13, 2007 at 7:00pm in class

Objective:
Use the combination of resources and skills you have learned through the Quarter to create a web site. The objective is to create a storyboard diagram, create a visual layout of the web site and then code the web site in strict XHTML. You are free to supplement images, the content and idea of the web site, however they must all flow together to make a well formed and complete web site.

Technical Web Site Requirements:

  • Team Members: Create the web site as a team of two or one
  • Storyboard: Diagram a storyboard of the web site showing all connecting links and layout of the pages.
  • Page Count: If team consists of two people, page count is 8 pages. If team consists of one person, page count is 5 pages.
  • Links: Each of the pages should include links to one another in a mixed structure of linear and hierarchical.
  • Tables: Include at least one table for a data set of values as in calendar events, sport scores, or directory, etc.
  • Web Form: Include one web form as a survey of your users. A complete form would include gathering contact information, providing questions of the survey, and the submission button. The form action should be sent to an email address (Does not have to be real).
  • CSS Styles: Formatting and style will be used via embedded styles or an external style sheet. No inline styles.
  • XHTML: Each page must include the XML declaration and XHTML Strict 1.0 DOCTYPE. No deprecated elements. All attributes must be in quotes and elements must be closed. To help further validate the syntax, use the W3C HTML validation tool located at http://validator.w3.org
  • JavaScript: Include at least one JavaScript function and output on a web page.
  • XML: Create a XML site map of your pages based on the specifications of the Sitemaps XML Protocol found at http://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.php

Presentation Requirements:

Each team will have 10 minutes to describe their web site from the storyboard to the final web site. You may use Power Point or some other form of presentation to display your storyboard and web site. The team will be graded on the following:

  • Project technical difficulty (You can implement each element, but if they do not connect and flow with the site, you will lose points here)
  • Project completeness
  • Project originality and appeal

Project Turn-In Requirements:

One copy of the project must be turned into Blackboard by 7pm, Monday, August 13, 2007. Please compress the files into a .zip file and name the file "FP_", the last names of the team member(s), and the extension ".zip". Example: "FP_frankhouser.zip" Remember to include only the files used for the project. Erase any extra files not part of the project. Also, reduce image sizes to fit the location on the web site (Images with file size in excess of 1MB should be reduced)

** If you are interested in including your final project on the class web site, please indicate this at the time of turn-in.

NOTE: This group project will count as 20% of your final grade in this class.
