The North Arcade is the quintessential Market Musical. No one has ever written a musical about Pike Place Market. Generations of people live and work in the market. People who work here bring their families... they're raised at The Market.
The Market is such a treasure of the region that we feel that to make a tribute via a musical was a fun and inspiring thing to do.
Typically, the way that Donna Rae and I write songs is that the lyrics and the characters come first. So I usually have the job of setting the lyrics to music. Because of the different types of characters and their experiences in the market, there are a great variety of songs and a great variety of emotions that we explore.
Audiences will encounter laughter, we address homelessness, we address runaways, and we also have a really good time.
